Professor Debi Choudary has been chosen to organize the IAU (International Astronomical Union) symposium 273 on the "Physics of Sun and Star Spots". The conference will be held in Los Angeles on 23-26 August 2010

Professor Deqing Ren has received $547,581 from NSF to support the project "CAREER: a Portable Solar Adaptive Optics System for High-Resolution Imaging Investigations".
The Department welcomes two new arrivals:
Dr. Luis Agapito from University of Florida has joined as a post-doctoral fellow the group of Professor Nick Kiossis.
Mr. Jiangpei Dou from the Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics and Technology in China is continuing PhD studies, originally started in his home institution, under the direction of Dr. Deqing Ren.
The department congratulates the mid-year graduates.
