Dr. Lagana`s research in the area of gerontology and geriatrics includes two CSUN projects currently in progress. One of them offers PSY 365 students the opportunity to become "Internet personal trainers" in order to teach older adults how to use computers and the Internet. This is a service-learning research endeavor, based on an original service-learning research model created by Dr. Lagana`. The second gerontology research project is investigating the psychosocial needs and quality of life challenges of minority elderly women. Students collect data in the community on older women from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Dr. Rubino is an accomplished healthcare administration practitioner who at midlife decided to transfer to full time academia. Before, he was Vice President of Paracelsus Healthcare, in charge of acute care, rehabilitative, and psychiatric hospitals as well as several skilled nursing facilities, and a home health agency. He is the faculty coordinator of the CSUN Health Administration Program Practitioner Advisory Committee and has organized their sponsored symposium for the last three years.

Professor Schlesinger is the Geriatric Education Specialist at the VA Medical Center in the Geriatric Research, Education & Clinical Center (GRECC) where she provides geriatric and aging education to students, staff and the community. Currently, she is teaching gerontology and consumer affairs courses at CSUN. Her area of interests include pre-retirement planning, retirement issues, consumer affairs, aging with a disability, and attitudes toward older adults.

Dr. Sheets is the coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Gerontology Program at CSUN. She received her doctorate in Gerontology and Public Policy from the University of Southern California. Prior to completing her doctorate she worked as registered nurse and has nearly 20 years of clinical nursing experience in areas that include critical care, post-anesthesia care, telemetry, and subacute care. She has published in journals that include the Journal of Disability Policy Studies, Journal of Occupational and Physical Therapy and Disability Studies Quarterly. Currently she is Co-Editor of Maximizing Human Potential-- a quarterly publicaton of the American Society on Aging. She serves on the Board of Directors for the California Council on Gerontology and Geriatrics and is co-advisor for the CSUN chapter of Sigma Phi Omega- the honor society for gerontology students and professionals in the field of aging. Her research interest include health policy, aging with disability, and assistive technology.
