- SPRING 2012 REGISTRATION UPDATE (posted 2/1/12 3:30 pm) -- As you have probably heard, individual departments on campus have been provided with additional resources to handle requests for class sessions. In the case of Computer Science, instead of opening new sessions, we increased the enrollment capacity in a large number of our existing sessions. Starting Thursday, Feb 2, the instructors of all COMP and CIT sessions will be able to add additional students up to the revised class limit for the session. Please check the Solar registration system to view which sessions have open seats.
- Full-time faculty position opening in the Department of Computer Science -- the official announcement of the position can be viewed by clicking here.
-
For computer information technology (CIT) majors: if you have completed the prerequisites for a CIT course that is not being offered in the upcoming semester, please make an advisement appointment with the department chair to discuss alternative courses that may be taken in place of the CIT course.
- For computer science majors: you are encouraged to take COMP 256/L to satisfy the degree requirement in Discrete Structures (MATH 326 may continue to be used to satisfy this requirement). The prerequisites for COMP 256/L are PHIL 230, COMP 182/L and MATH 150A. Note that COMP 256/L will not count towards meeting math minor requirements. For the past several years COMP 256/L was also known as COMP 296FCS/FCL.
- For anyone needing to take COMP 232: the number associated with that course is changing to COMP 333 effective fall 2011. Current articulation agreements with community colleges regarding the transferability of courses equivalent to COMP 232 will not be immediately impacted by the move of the course to upper division status at CSUN.
- You may have noticed the Fall 2011 scheduling of COMP 490/L and Spring 2012 scheduling of COMP 491L, Senior Design Project. For students majoring in Computer Science starting under the 2010-2012 University Catalog, a change has occurred: COMP 450 may no longer be used to meet any of the requirements in the major and all students must take a year-long senior design project consisting of COMP 490/L and COMP 491L. Students under University Catalog agreements for the major prior to 2010 may still follow the degree requirements for that Catalog year and are not required to take COMP 490/L and COMP 491L.
- If your declared Catalog year for Computer Science is prior to 2010, you DO have the OPTION to complete COMP 490/L and COMP 491L, Senior Design Project:
- If you enroll in COMP 490/L for Fall 2011, you must commit to completing COMP 491L during Spring 2012 in order to receive credit for either course towards degree requirements; you must take both of the courses.
- If you have not attempted COMP 450, you may request that COMP 490/L substitute for the COMP 450 requirement (you do not take COMP 450) and COMP 491L will count as 1 of the 5 courses required in your Senior Elective Package.
- If you have completed COMP 450 by the end of the Spring 2010 semester (yes, one year ago), then the completion of COMP 490/L and COMP 491L may be counted as 2 of the 5 courses required in your Senior Elective Package. Please note: this option exists only for students who have completed COMP 450 by the end of the Spring 2010.
- NOTE: this page, along with the entire department web site, is undergoing a major redesign; there will be times when a link may be non-functional or you may be taken to an older page; the new pages will have a format similar to this one.
