( I'm sure there are plenty of these sort of messages coming our way,
here's my little rant, if you don't feel inclined to read through it,
then, uh... don't)
Well, here in Canada we had the benefit of seeing about six or seven (I
didn't count) different version of the US political circus. here are some
observations I had, having watched Gore, and Clinton's speeches. I think
the one thing I take comfort in, is that at least it was one of, if not
actually, the lowest voter turnouts in history. That being said, I shall
start foaming heavily at the mouth, so if you don't want to be covered in
spittle, I suggest you take a good few steps back...
Firstly I feel really really sorry for the dedicated scriptwriter, who
probably spent days, or weeks, writing Gore's speech. It was a very
beautiful speech, quite moving, I'm sure, but the guy just couldn't read
it. Does he have any other kinds of speech except that familiar dull
monotone? I can just see the poor scriptwriter sitting there, having
thrust a knife into their stomach, about to make the big long gash.
The crowd was amusing, as usual, giving a typical surreal rock concert
aura to the whole thing. I was half expecting a mosh pit to start, or
clinton to dive off the stage into the arms of his fans.
Of course, the speeches were, as tradition demands, hilariously funny, in
a sort of twisted satirical way. Apparently America is "scrubbing the
stain of cynicism from [its] national colours", out damn spot :) I guess
us lot are just a sort of stubborn grass stain. Cool. I also found the
image of "talented teachers, shepherd[ing] dedicated students through the
best schools in the world" very amusing, unless things are very different
in the US, to how they are here. Maybe that was just another one of those
21st century promises?
I really began to wonder, whether Clinton and Gore, ware actually stupid
enough to believe in the crap written down on the speeches that were
handed to them. They're just glove puppets, walking around with the hands
of the corporations stuck firmly up their arses, making them move. It
would be amazing if they truly believed in what they say. These sort of
things always make me think, where's a maniac with an automatic weapon
when you need one? So where were you carp? I was relying on some
entertainment.
Clinton, of course kept on talking about building his bridge to the
future. I have a suggestion for construction materials, Clinton himself.
If this metaphorical bridge, crosses a metaphorical river, I could suggest
he be used as a metaphorical support column, preferably one metaphorically
submerged under the metaphorical water. Course, he "thank[ed] god [he] was
born in america", presumably because there are only a handful of other
countries in the world, where an idiot like him could gain power (no
disrespect to our american friends, same thing happens here).
Billy-boy felt that he was "closer to god, and the eternal wisdom without
which a president cannot serve", thank god for the fucking messiah, I'd
been waiting a while for the second coming :) Apparently the American
"economy [is] stronger, [the] streets [are] safer, [and the] world more
secure", not having lived there I wouldn't know myself, but it sounds like
a different place to the one I hear about on TV.
Clinton claimed America was "meeting new threats to [its] security
through terrorism and the proliferation of deadly weapons". I'd actually
agree with that, he hasn't really been shy of using terrorism, or the
proliferation of weapons, has he? Well, maybe compared to some of his
predecessors.
Apparently "America always wins", it would just see that the people who
live there always lose :) Anyway, for anyone who's bothered reading this
far, thanks and I'd like to leave you with the words of an psychopath, one
who has been institutionalised unconventionally, but very much fits his
institution, "talk is not ever enough, we must act, and act now".
Ben.
