Catching Up With Doug English

Recently, Doug has had some exciting events occur in his life. These events may keep him from participating in the 2003 Hume Lake Volleyball Tournament. He is currently training for the World University Games team for the United States. It is a collection of the best collegiate players. He was invited to try out, and is now training with the best in the nation. Below are emails that he has sent back to family and friends so that everybody will be updated on what is happening. They are even being published in our local newspaper, the Glendale Newspress. If you would like get Doug's emails, sign up on the home page for the mailing list and I will forward them to you the minute that I get them myself.

For those that missed out on hearing about Doug's last volleyball season at Cal State University Northridge, here are a few of the highlights. The Cal State Nortridge men's volleyball team had one of their best seasons ever since their program had been cut in 1994. Individually, Doug had his best season ever as well. He was named 1st team All-American as well as 1st team All-MPSF. He was the only libero to be named to the 1st team All-American team. Doug was the leading NCAA Division 1 libero in digs throughout the season. On top of that, his picture (a full, 2 page picture) of him showed up in this years June issue of volleyball magazine. If you have a chance, pick that up. The next month, July, also featured a small section in which they showed the guys that made 1st team All-American. His picture, while much smaller than June's issue, is also in that.
