To participate in a CSUN online course, students should be familiar
with computers and the Internet. Online students should have the following:
- A CSUN email account is mandatory for logging on to WebCT.
- A PC with a Pentium (or equivalent processor at 166 Mhz or better)
or Macintosh system 7.5 or better
- A modem or other device capable of connecting to the Internet at a
speed of 28.8 kbps (56K or higher is recommended)
- An Internet Service Provider (ISP). NOTE: Users of AOL must use Netscape
as their browser.
- PC--Microsoft IE 5.0, 5.5, 6.0
Mac users-Microsoft IE 5.1 (OS 9.x and OS X.1) and 5.2 (OS X.2).
Mac and PC--Netscape 6..x and 7.x
(Note: you cannot log on to WebCT with other versions of Netscape or
Microsoft IE)
- Java and Javascript must be enabled in your browser
- Word processing software, for example, MS Word or Corel WordPerfect.
- A sound card and speakers may be useful for some sites that you may
visit.
- Current virus software should be installed and kept up to date.
- You should have the following Multimedia Plug-ins, but if you don't
you can download them for free:
Macromedia Flash
QuickTime Player
Shockwave
NOTE: Don't make
changes to your system, until, or unless, you discover some course links
that do not work.
