I am continuing my research on the mathematical work of Mario Pieri (1860-1913).
Pieri was an algebraic geometer by training. He began his research in that field in the 1880s as a member of the School of Corrado Segre and Enrico D'Ovidio at the University of Turin.
By the final decade of the 19th century, he had become involved in the School of Giuseppe Peano there. While not abandoning his research in algebraic geometry, producing 31 papers primarily devoted to the properties and effects of birational transformations and with the development and applications of enumerative methods, he also published 18 papers in foundations of geometry and 5 papers in arithemtic, logic and philosophy of science. Peano judged Pieri's 1907 postulates for the natural numbers superior to his own

Pieri played a major role that Pieri in algebraic geometry and foundations of mathematics around the turn to the 20th century. As recognized by Bertrand Russell, Alfred Tarski, H.S.M. Coxeter and others, his work continues to provide valuable opportunities for research. Two books published in 2007 and 2020 include English translations and analyses of Pieri's major works. There is much more to explore in the work of this extraordinary Italian mathematician.
