Text: Calculus (Sixth Edition, 6th ed) by James Stewart.
The objectives of this course are for you to learn the fundamental ideas of calculus and to learn the techniques that embody these ideas to formulate, analyze, and solve those problems in the natural world that involve the quantitative description of change.
To pass this course, you should expect to do 1-2 hours of homework for each hour that you spend in the classroom.
Grading:
2 midterms, each worth 20%
Homework 10%
Quizzes 10%
Common cumulative final 40%
Most of your homework assignments will be carried out online. The homework sets can be accessed through the URL https://www.webassign.net/login.html. The first time you log in click on student guide at the left and you can learn about and get onto the system. The homework is graded electronically and solutions are available after the homework set due date. Therefore late homework can not be accepted.
Class attendance is strongly encouraged. The unannounced quizzes will be very simple, but no make-up quizzes are given.
A class average, based on the quizzes, tests, homework, and final exam, will be determined as described above. Your grade in the course will be based on your class average as follows:
CLASS AVERAGE GRADE
90 – 100 A
77 – 89 B
65 – 76 C
50 – 64 D
< 50 F
Plus-minus grades may be given.
All cell phones must be turned off or I may ask you to leave the class or give me to phone.
