To the CSUN Campus Community:
I
am pleased to announce that today California State University, Northridge
kicks off a campaign to raise $500,000 in five days to aid the victims
of Hurricane Katrina. This ambitious effort initiated and coordinated
by the University Student Union allows CSUN to say "thanks"
to a nation that gave generously to this campus following the devastating
1994 Northridge earthquake. All donations will be given to the American
Red Cross to be used for the benefit of the hurricane victims.
The
campaign will be launched during the 13th Annual Welcome Celebration
held on the lawn of the Student Services Building/Bayramian Hall
from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Financial donations
will be collected each weekday from September 8 to 14. It will take
$15 per each student, faculty, and staff to reach the $500,000 goal.
How
you can help:
Bring
your contribution to one of four collection stations that will accept
donations weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Sept. 8, 12, 13,
and 14), and from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9:

Cal
State Northridge suffered tremendous damage during the earthquake,
and people and businesses across the country responded with an outpouring
of support and assistance. Now it is our turn to repay that generosity.
"I
am confident that we will raise half a million dollars in five days,"
said Vicki Allen, Assistant Director for Student Involvement of
the Matador Involvement Center and one of the event's organizers.
"We have to do something."
While
this campaign asks for $15 per person, I believe many among us can
give more so please give your best. No donation is too small. Every
dollar will aid this institution in reaching the goal.
I also invite you to follow our progress. Each day, banners posted
on the Sierra Lawn and at each donation site will chronicle the
campaign's growth.
"I
am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the campus to come
together for this event," said Debra L. Hammond, Executive
Director of the University Student Union, and an event organizer.
"Not simply because it's a worthy cause, but because it is
the right thing to do."
