THE SIDNEY A. LUCKENBACH MEMORIAL AWARD

The Sidney A. Luckenbach Memorial Award is a cash award presented each year to one or more academically outstanding Philosophy majors. The award is named for Sidney A. Luckenbach, Sr., who taught Philosophy at CSUN from 1965 until his death in 1997 at the age of 59. The award is made possible by the Sidney A . Luckenbach Memorial Award endowment, established by a generous gift from the Luckenbach family and enhanced by subsequent gifts from Sid's friends and former students. The endowment fund is now valued at more than $39,500.

Sid's philosophical interests were mainly in logic, philosophy of science, philosophy of mathematics, and semantic theory. He shared his love for logic and the rational interchange of ideas with thousands of CSUN students, and he is remembered especially for his kind and generous concern for them. It is entirely appropriate, therefore, that all the proceeds from the Luckenbach endowment go directly to students.

Award amounts are determined by the endowment earnings and presented to students in the Spring semester. Eligible candidates are Philosophy majors whose overall GPA's are at least 3.0, with preference given to students with interests in logic or philosophy of science and to students with financial need.
