4-Unit
Service Opportunity
Applied
Intergroup Relations Class (PSYCH 432)
4
unit class meets Mondays from 2p – 5:50p; #14658
This
seminar examines theories of intergroup relations
and their application in field settings, as well as principles
of intergroup conflict mediation and their use. The focus
is on reducing prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination.
Students apply the theories and principles in supervised
service or research internships and complete an approved
community-based project report. Service interns will lead
discussions with adolescents or adults. Research interns
will collect, code, enter, and analyze data. Co-authorships
on convention presentations are available for motivated
students. This course serves an elective for Psychology majors or
students in highly related majors (e.g., sociology, Pan-African
Studies). With extra assignments, it may be taken for elective
credit in the M.A. program in psychology or highly related
field.
The Upper
Division Writing requirement has been waived. If you
log on and cannot register, contact the Psychology
Department at (818) 677-2827 for a permission number.
