Faculty
& Staff Information
The
Center for Community Service-Learning (CSL) and our Faculty
Advisory Committee is eager to work with you to bring
a new service-learning component to your curriculum.
By adding a service-learning component to your course,
you
can
increase students' ability to apply what they learn
in the "real world," and increase their likelyhood of
graduating. Studies have also shown that service-learning
aids in the retention of subject information associated
with thier service experience.
CSL also
offer funding opportunities through our Faculty Curriculum
Development Grants. This academic year, CSUN has been
given nearly $50,000 to support the development of new
service-learning courses, enguaged department initiatives,
and interdisciplinary civic engagement projects. In addition,
$8750 from a federally funded initiative has benn allocated
to suppor CSUN faculty who teach service-learning classes
that bring enrichment activities to after-school gang
prevention programs throughout the San Fernando Valley.
