About Drug Detox

Drug addiction is a problem which is a menace of the society. It corrodes youth of the society like a termite eats up even the strongest wood piece. Its a habit which is very difficult to get rid of. Its an addiction where even the best detox program fails often.

Opium is the biggest culprit among various drugs. It is hardest to leave. An opium addict gets so intense urge to consume it that he/she goes absolutely insane to have it. The irony is that opium farming was once encouraged as it is used in some useful drugs like Morphine. Countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan once had huge farming of opium.

If opiate is so useful, then how did it become a curse. The reason being its addictive characteristics. The drug is naturally such that once taken any human would like to take it again. If not taken, it can cause severe headaches and upset the whole body. Hence, it is often wrongly used by people. When these substances are taken under the supervision of a doctor they will not cause addiction. But when massive doses are used (and abused) that is when an addiction develops. Because of the highly addictive qualities of opiates based pain killers like vicodin and oxycontin, trying to shake the habit is very, very difficult. Opiate is a strong stimulant. It straightaway effects the brain. It give strong temporary relief from all worries and stress. In fact it gives a feeling of pleasure. Once its effect is gone the individual starts feeling strong urges of having it again. It makes him take one more dose of opiate. This continues leading to strong addiction of opiate. And this also the reason why a person who is prescribed the drugs can eventually develop a vicodin addiction or oxycontin addiction.

Opiate detoxify is a method in which a person's body is made free of substances which causes the urge to take more opiate. It is a body purification process whereby this harmful substances are flushed out of the body leading to an end to the opiate addiction.

The process of detoxification is a complex one. Many drugs have been tried to make a drug addict free of the harmful substances. In fact, various drug detox centers use different ways to cure a patient suffering from the addiction. In some centers, a person who needs to undergo a vicodin detox or an oxycontin detox are prescribed drugs that would replace the addictive substance. In the past, patients were actually given drugs like naltrexone or methadone as a way of easing the patient’s transition from his previous “addictive” state to a state where all of the drugs have been flushed from the body. But then these substances can also cause an addiction. Because of exhaustive research and trials, a new drug called buprenorphine has been found to be an effective alternative to the previously cited drugs and with the added benefit that it cannot be abused as it is likely to cause a dependence on the drug. This makes it easier to address a vicodin addiction or an oxycontin addiction.

By effectively flushing out the body’s system from the highly addictive substance and then slowly weaning the body from any kind of euphoria inducing drugs a person who has a vicodin addiction or an oxycontin addiction will be more likely to successfully kick his habit.
