Q. What’s the GPA requirement for the GE Honors Program? A. First-Time Freshmen are invited to participate in the GE Honors Program on the basis of a high school GPA of 3.7 or by the recommendation of high school faculty. Continuing students at California State University, Northridge are invited to participate on the basis of an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher in work completed at the University, or by the recommendation of University faculty and /or EOP Satellite Directors.
Q. How many units are required for the GE Honors Certificate? A. You will receive your GE Honors certificate at the end of your graduating semester. Please contact us at (818) 677-2969 during the semester that you’re graduating so we can prepare your certificate. You can request that your certificate be mailed to your home address or you can arrange to pick it up at our office.
Q. Do you offer GE Honors courses during Intersession, Summer Session, or through Extension? A. Not at the present time.
Q. How many GE Honors courses do I have to take each semester? A. You are in control as to how many courses you want to take per semester. Just inform your advisor what you’re plans are so they can advise you accordingly.
Q. When I have completed the required 15 units for the program when do I receive my certificate? A. You will receive your GE Honors certificate at the end of your graduating semester. Q. Do I have to enroll in the GE Honors program to graduate with Honors? A. You are not required to enroll in the GE Honors program to graduate with Honors. To graduate with Honors you must have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Q. If I have satisfied the required number of units for the GE Honors program can I still enroll in additional GE Honors courses as they are offered each semester? A. Sure. However, it would be a better idea to enroll in the upper division courses rather than the lower division courses. Incoming freshman will need those seats to enroll and fulfill their own requirements. The upper division courses usually will have plenty of seats available for enrollment.
Q. What happens if I receive a grade of B- (minus) or lower in a GE Honors course(s)? A. If you receive a grade of B- (minus) or lower in any GE Honors course you will have to take an additional GE Honors course(s) to complete the program and receive the GE Honors certificate.
Q. What happens if my overall GPA falls below 3.0? Can I still take GE Honors courses? A. If your overall GPA falls below 3.0 you will need to make an appointment to speak with the program Director immediately.
