Graduate Program
The department offers a Masters Degree in Chicana and
Chicano Studies. This program is designed to develop
advanced studies in the Social Sciences, the Arts, Education,
Community Studies, the Humanities, and other areas related
to the Chicana/o experience in the United States.

University Requirements for the
Master of Arts in
Chicana and Chicano Studies
Minimum university G.P.A. requirement for admission to
graduate studies at CSUN is 2.5 in the last 60 semester
(90 quarter) units.
Required for admission to classified status:
--> An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
--> Appropriate scores on GRE, GMAT, MAT or other acceptable
examinations
--> A passing score on an Upper Division Writing Proficiency examination
is required for classification
--> The Graduate coordinator can inform you of the specific requirements
for Classified Status
Department Requirements for the
Master of Arts in
Chicana and Chicano Studies
A minimum of 30 units of approved graduate work comprised of the
following:
--> Core Requirements
CHS 500 Seminar in Chicana/o Studies
CHS 501 Seminar in the Social Sciences and the Chicana/o
CHS 502 Seminar in the Humanities and the Chicana/o
--> An additional 12 units of 500 level courses in Chicana/o Studies
--> Nine units of approved 400-500 level courses in Chicana/o Studies
(6 of these 9 units may be taken outside the department with prior
approval of coordinator).
--> A comprehensive evaluation in the discipline of Chicana/o Studies in
the form of any one of the following:
- Thesis
- Written and Oral Examination (under review)
- Project
