Biology is the science of life, its variety and processes. The study of organisms provides an understanding of how populations of organisms interact among themselves and with their environment. The study of biological macromolecules is the basis for understanding genetics, cellular and organismal physiology, metabolism, and development. California State University, Northridge offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Degrees in Biology. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree is designed for students seeking a broad foundation in biology as part of a liberal education in the arts and sciences. The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree is appropriate for students seeking in-depth training in a particular biological field, and is offered in five different areas of emphasis.
The Biology Department has identified four learning outcomes to be achieved by its students as a result of completing one of its baccalaureate degree programs.
Advisement is required of Biology students during the fall semester before registering for the spring semester. Advisement can be obtained at the Biology Student Advisement Center, EH 2133. Advisement Center hours are available on the Advisement Center web page, or in the Biology Office.
