Health Professions Advisement Center

The HPAC assists students in their preparation for application and entrance to Medical (including Allopathic and Osteopathic), Pharmacy, Optometry, Physician Assistant, Veterinary, and Podiatry schools. We do this by offering students informal advice regarding course selection and sequencing, suggestions on school choices, review of personal statements, input regarding choosing extracurricular activities, like clinical volunteer work and research, and suggestions for improvement of overall application.

We work with undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students, as well as alumni. Students are suggested to get advisement as soon as they decide they want to attend professional school. Applications are typically submitted a year before matriculation, but clinical volunteer or paid work must begin before that in order to be competitive.

Medical Advisors:

Dr. Terri S. Richardson, M.D.

Recommended preparation for admission to:

Our office also:

  • Writes the “official” pre-health committee (aka composite) letter for each student, which many professional schools require. This letter contains a summary of the student’s performance at Cal State Northridge, highlighting their GPA, classes taken, and a little bit about their background. We usually also take excerpts from all other letters (giving credit to the authors), compiling all of this information into one complete letter.
  • Transmits letters of recommendation to professional schools that have been submitted to us by on- or off-campus references via our centralized letter collection service.

In the last few years, CSUN students have been accepted to:
